The FHA joined the British Hairdressing Consortium (BHC) so that our industry can speak to Government with one strong, united voice and ensure that the importance of our industry is properly understood.

Whilst we recognise that the proposed lowering of VAT will not directly apply to the majority of FHA members, we nevertheless welcome your support for this important industry initiative.

The FHA firmly believes that when our industry stands together, we have a stronger voice and a greater opportunity to influence positive change. Even when an issue does not directly affect every member, supporting initiatives that benefit the wider hairdressing industry helps strengthen our profession as a whole.

We therefore hope you will support this initiative and recognise the importance of standing together as one industry, with one strong and united voice.

About the British Hair Consortium…

The BHC was established to provide a single, united voice for our industry when engaging with Government and policymakers. By working together, we can more effectively represent the interests of everyone who makes our industry what it is, including:

• Salon owners
• Freelancers
• Educators
• Apprentices
• Hairdressers and barbers

The consortium brings together the Salon Employers Association, Salon Owners United (SOU), the Hair and Barber Council, the Freelance Hairdressers Association, the Men’s Hairdressing Federation (MH Fed), the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and HABIA.

Our mission…

The BHC’s primary goal is to secure a reduction in VAT for the hairdressing, beauty and barbering sector.

Following extensive financial modelling and industry analysis, we believe that a VAT reduction is the single most effective measure to:

• Help businesses remain viable
• Protect jobs and apprenticeships
• Encourage growth and investment
• Support the long-term sustainability of our industry

This is an issue that affects every professional in our sector, regardless of business size or working model.

The most powerful way to influence change is by contacting your
local Member of Parliament (MP).

To make this as easy as possible, the BHC has created a simple process. Once you register, you will receive a ready-made letter that can be sent directly to your MP. This ensures our message is clear, professional and consistent across the country.
