Self-Employed in a Salon?
Are you familiar or up to date with the HMRC guidelines as a self-employed hairdresser?! No! Then type: VTAXPER69100 into your search bar. It will take you to HMRC’s own guidelines – Particular trades: Hairdressing: Guidelines.
It has important information regarding being self-employed. If you are working self-employed in a salon you are your own boss running your own business within the salon premises. The guidelines show that you are solely responsible for all aspects of your business. Salon owners cannot dictate your working hours, when you take holidays etc. If you are in this situation, it is wrong. You have total autonomy over your business.
Please do take time to check out these guidelines and understand your rights.
Do You Play Music, Watch TV In Your Home Salon?
If you play music or have TV for clients in your home salon you need to check if you need a license.
Music and TV that’s played outside of a domestic environment is classed as a public performance and as such you will need TheMusicLicence from PPL PRS Ltd.
Without a licence you could face a hefty fine.
